Self-motivation is often spoken of as one of the main requisites for a person to excel in a job. What about IQ and other measures of intelligence? They are important as well; however, an emotionally stable and highly motivated person has a better chance of facing problems inherent in a dynamic working atmosphere.
People recognize leaders who are self-motivated. They appear calm, listen to grievances, and make informed decisions based on sound judgement backed by high levels of emotional intelligence. Though there are several factors like motivation, social skills, empathy, self-regulation, and self-awareness, persons who are self-motivated rarely find themselves in a spot of bother while dealing with difficult situations.
How To Assess Your Motivation Levels

- Have you tested your involvement by bringing ideas to the table? If yes, emotional intelligence exists suggesting adequate preparation is made for group projects.
- Are you the first person to get up and sing a song where worry creeps in due to reduced frequency of projects? If your answer is yes, motivation is not the problem.
How To Improve Self-Motivation
- Indulge in creative activities within the project. Your mind begins to fend off time-wasting and repetitive activities often leading to boredom and lack of motivation.
- Begin the exercise of pushing positive thoughts into the mind. For example, keep reminding yourself, “I can do this” at every step of taking action towards a goal.
- Implement planned phases in short spells. Your motivation levels may have been quite high when a project was planned. It’s important to bring back the same inspired level at different phases of the project. A simple way is to take action in small steps all the time. Improved self-motivation is observed through successful implementation of the plan.
- Another method is to keep reminding yourself the difficult phase will pass. As corrective measures are taken within the system itself, participants invariably find themselves in a more cordial working environment leading to higher levels of enthusiasm.
- It’s time to look up to your friends for positive distraction. The ideal way in the workplace is to share ideas with friends and peers over a chat program. The conversation may lead to new ideas, which could be implemented in the present project.
- Try helping others implement exercises at different stages of a project by sharing your ideas and experiences from the past. When you begin reciting success stories, self-motivation comes back. You have enhanced emotional intelligence and are now in a position to make a habit of it whenever you face a similar situation.
